Boba and Beru
I was never a small dog person. My family has always had big dogs; three greyhounds, a lab and a golden. I was adamantly opposed to having a small, “kick-me”, dog. That is until we babysat our neighbor’s pug named Carl. I fell in love with him and his small size and wanted one of my own. After the death of our beloved greyhound Sarge, we began the search for a new dog. The same neighbors sent us a link to SEPRA’s page, and that’s when I first saw Boba and Beru. First off, they were adorable (despite the odd names) and there were two of them. Two pugs are always better than one!
Boba and Beru are the best things that have ever happened to me. I would come home from school everyday just wanting to see them. They make me happier than anything else in my life. Beru is the sweetheart. She is the cutest little thing I have ever seen. She loves to cuddle with us, always climbing into out laps to sit with us. I’ve always wanted a dog that wanted to be held and be near me, and Beru is exactly that dog. She’s also quite the comedian. She does so many things that make me laugh everyday. One of her favorite things to do is play in the dirty laundry. When we start sorting through the clothes she’ll run into the laundry room and start rolling around, sometimes even taking a garment with her!
Boba is the goofball. While not the most handsome dog (we’re always joking that his eyes are going to pop out of his head since they bulge out so much) he does have a huge heart. He’ll climb onto the back of the couch and put his head on your shoulder, and give you lots of kisses. And he’s so cute when he wiggles his little curly tail. He likes to play more than Beru. Playing tug of war with him is not as easy as I thought it would be. That little tiny mouth can hold on for a very long time. He even plays tug-of-war with our lab! He also has his own funny quirks; if you scratch him in just the right place on his back he makes a noise like Chewbacca. They both love going on walks. They get very excited when I pull out the harnesses and leashes. Beru starts running around in circles and Boba wiggles his tail and sometimes lets out a bark or two. They also love food. We feed them green beans for lunch, and as soon as I say the word “Beans” they start jumping up and down and Beru runs in circles.
I’m going to miss them more than anything when I leave for college in a couple of weeks. I will be driving home many weekends for the pure purpose of seeing my pugs. And I will for sure be Skyping with them!
Pugs are unlike any other dog we’ve had before. We thought two little dogs would be like having one large dog. We were so wrong. They both have huge personalities and their own distinctive traits. They are hilarious little dogs and bring me so much joy. I wouldn’t give them up for anything. SEPRA did a fantastic job, and I thank them for bringing these little guys into my life.
