Gertie Lou

Hi, my name is Gertie Lou. I came to SEPRA from a puppymill, where I lived to make more pug puppies. I am 5 years old, and am loving this thing called a home. I was very shy when I first got here, but I have adjusted very quickly to the new place, and have learned the ropes. I bet within a few weeks anywhere I would feel right at home.

I have had all my vet work done. I have been spayed and had an inguinal hernia repaired, and have had some tartar and a few loose teeth removed. I am up to date on shots, and am heart worm negative! Also, the vet said I was in really good overall condition. My eyes are clear, my knees are good, hips are good, and the rest of my teeth look good.

I may be 5 years old, but I act like a puppy. I love toys and rawhide chewies, and treats!! I run in circles, and jump up and down when my foster mom first comes in to see me. I get so excited.

I am not fully potty trained yet, since I grew up living in a pen. I bet if you give me some time, and you let me learn your routine, I will catch on to that too.

I think I would like a home with another dog. I think I would prefer a home with a submissive male or female, since I am a little shy at first. I would also make a perfect solo dog too. Wow, to think I could have a family all to my own!! Oh, and I should mention that I dont really like cats. I like to bark at them, chase them, and scratch at the glass door when I see them, and it can get a little obsessive sometimes.

Well that is my story and I am sticking to it! Thanks for reading about me, and if you think I would be the right dog for your family, please put my name on the adoption application - Gertie Lou. I would love to be a part of your family!

2/21/10 update:
Hi Guys! It has been 3 months now since I came to SEPRA, and I am doing very well. I have been such a fast learner that my foster mom says that no one would know that I came from a puppymill!

I have become very comfortable with home life. My mom still calls me a busy body who always wants to play, but she now enjoys when I come up on the couch and rest in her lap. I just find it hard to rest when there is so much fun to be had!

My one snag while being in my foster home has been that I play too rough with the older pugs in the house. I tend to not stop when they are done playing, and it can get pretty intense, when they ask me to stop, and I continue. My foster mom has found that if she just monitors me, and corrects me when I am wrong, that I am better after a time out. Because of this, my foster mom thinks I would do best as the only dog, or with one younger submissive male or female pug, in my new home. I guess this gives me the title of a "dominant" female. But it is probably because of my former line of work, so please dont hold it against me.

Now that I feel like I caught you up to speed, I would just like to say that I am really excited to think that there would be a family out there just for me! I am healthy, happy girl, with just a lot of energy stored up wanting to be a part of a family. If you think it could be yours, please put Gertie Lou on the adoption application. You wont regret it, I promise!

     Yours Truly,             Gertie Lou
