Hello everyone!! My name is Gretchen! I’m 3 years old, spayed, and all up to date on my shots. I’m a pug-mix – we think maybe one of my parents was a Dachshund, but we just aren’t sure. I have the coloring of a pug but a longer body. And I have a beautiful snout and profile and none of the breathing problems of pure bred pugs. Whatever I’m mixed with, I’m more energetic than a typical pug, I am a super fast runner and I have a great attention span. I think I’m pretty smart and catch on very quickly. I am motivated by treats, toys and attention.
You might remember me from being with SEPRA last year. I came back into foster because I got a little nippy and bossy in my last house. I just get so excited and want to get in on the action, especially when I know it’s time to go outside and play. Remember that feeling you got in 1st grade right before afternoon recess? Yep, that’s me….Is it time to play yet??? My foster mom says I have about 3-4 spurts of real high energy per day, mostly when it’s time to go outside. I’m working REALLY hard on containing that energy in my new foster home and it’s working out pretty well. Sometimes all it takes it just going out a different door than everyone else at play time.
My foster mom says I am a very loving little girl, I just need a playmate who can keep up with me, or to be in a home where I get ALL the attention. I could handle that, and with such a great all around dog like me, what else do you need? I am a confident little girl. You see, I think I’m a big dog when really I’m not! I can keep up with my Lab foster brother and love to chase after him when he plays Frisbee. I can catch him and love to play tug of war with him too. He doesn’t mind that I bark at him either when I get excited. He knows it’s a special brand of “Gretch-Energy” and not aggression. I like to hang with my older pug sister and brother too, and they even let me snuggle up with them in our beds when it’s time for rest. My foster mom says my new forever home needs to know I have two speeds: Full Blast and Couch Potato. Once I blow off my steam and run around a bit, I’ll stretch out on the couch or under my mom’s desk and snooze the afternoon away. I’m really very versatile and multi-talented, you see. And, I do not snore.
The part of me that is ALL Pug is that I absolutely LOVE to snuggle and I like to follow my humans everywhere! I also have an extremely expressive face and beautiful, soft brown eyes. I melt hearts! My foster mom also wants you to know that I have absolutely PERFECT house manners! They even leave me out to roam when they have to leave. They don’t know how I would do in a crate because I’ve never given them reason to put me in one. I also walk perfectly on a leash. And with my energy, you may be surprised, but I sit and wait patiently for my meals, never beg for food nor am I food aggressive.
So as a recap, my foster mom says this would be my perfect home: no small children – not because I don’t like them, but I do jump on people a bit and it might be too much for little kids. And I’m working on the nipping but kids don’t understand. Secondly, a big fenced in yard would be great! I need a safe place to run, run, run FAST and get my wiggles out! If I have canine siblings, I need another confident dog who can keep up with me, or I would be perfectly happy as an only dog, especially if my parents include me in all aspects of their day. I haven’t been around cats but my foster mom suspects that I might chase them, so maybe not a good idea. I do like to chase birds in the yard and try to catch lightning bugs. I also need humans who are willing to continue the work that my foster parents have started with me, and remind me that they are the boss, and not me!
I hope you will consider letting me be a part of your family. My foster mom says anyone would be lucky to have me. If you’re looking for an all around awesome friend and companion with a little extra sass and personality, pick me! I’m the one you know will be up for whatever fun you have planned…(walks, playing with toys or just hanging out next to you while you play Scrabble) fill out an application and come and meet me! I come with my own toys and am ready to have my own forever family.
Gratefully, Gretchen
(Gretch / Gretchie for short).
