Mabel

Hello! My name is Mabel, and I'm looking for a forever home. My foster mom tells me that forever homes are kind, loving places that keep me and take care of me, which sounds great to me, considering I've never had a place like that before. You see, I grew up in a puppy mill, where I was kept in a cage my whole life. I never got bathed, never got to play, and especially never got loved. When I came to my foster mom, I was dirty, had sores on the back of my legs, and didn't trust anyone. But, since being around my foster family and foster pug brother and sister, I free like a brand new woman! I'm UTD on all my shots. I've had surgery on my nose to open up my airway, so I'll be able to breathe better. And, I've even had my teeth cleaned! I'm 5-years old, but I feel and act much younger! Because I spent all my younger years in a cage, I'm making up for it now. I love to play with people and other dogs, trot around, and give kisses. I'm learning what to do with toys, but I know I like bones and other chew toys.

Actually, since coming to my foster family, I've been doing a lot of learning. I can now climb up and down stairs. I've learned to trust people when they give me treats. And I've learned that houses are not places to go potty. I've been really good about going outside as long as I'm given opportunities. But I do have some more learning to do. For instance, I'm learning to walk on something called a leash. I didn't understand it at first, but I'm getting better. Also, I'm still not really confident around a lot of people I don't know, since I never had to be around people when I was in a cage. I'm never aggressive to anyone, but I cower when I feel scared. So, a home without small children would probably be the best fit for me. I do love my foster pug siblings, so I would be great in a home with another dog. I also need a family that will be loving, kind, and patient. So many things are still new to me, so I need some time to warm up and feel comfortable. But once I do.... I'll be the most loving and loyal companion you've ever asked for!

UPDATE: 1/3/10
Hi folks! It's Mabel again, and I'm living life as a brand new girl! Boy have I let my personality shine through as I've gotten more accustomed to life outside a cage. My foster mom says I have quite the personality and voice to go with it. I LOVE to play, but my specialty is cuddling. I've completely healed from all my surgeries (my spay, my nose, and my hernia), and I feel better than ever. They say I'm 5-years old, but I still act like a young pup. I love to run, wag my tail, and give little squeals when I'm happy. My mom says I'm looking beautiful and slimmer than ever, so my New Year's resolution doesn't have to be to lose weight. Instead, my resolution is to find a forever home with a family that will love me just as much as I can love them. And, man, I can love a lot! Just give me a little time to adjust, and I'll be the most loyal, loving pug you've ever seen.
